Maybe it is the windy Texas night that we're having. Maybe it's because I'm half way through writing a song about God's glory, which by the way, is not an easy thing to describe. Seriously, try it. You'll see why I'm stuck. How do you put into words God's glory? Yet, it's the epitomy of why we exist...to reflect His glory!
So as my mind oftentimes works, I think and think. Random thoughts. Then somehow I pair together two odd things that half makes sense, at least to me, anyway. Tonight, that thought is OLD GLORY.
So you might be thinking, "OLD GLORY," the flag, right? No, not tonight. Tonight, Old Glory is...well, it's the manifestation of God in our lives. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to be unpatriotic. It's just that, well, think about it. When a flag is waving high on the flagpole, for everyone to see, you don't see the wind, right? You just see the flag waving, even though the wind is doing all the action. And as Christians, we don't see God, but if He is moving in our life, we'll see signs of Him. We'll see the waving, the reflecting of His glory.
The song I'm writing right now talks about what it would be like if we could just catch a glimpse of God's glory. Think about it. Really, take your time, because I just can't find the words tonight to describe it. (Yes, me kind of speechless, it's a rarity, I know.) But how do you describe God's glory? Or can you, really? Can you only describe it through how He manifests Himself in us, like the wind against the flag? And imagine what would happen in our lives, in our churches if we really caught just a glimpse of God Almighty. His power is unknown. His glory can't be described. Not even for a garrulous blogger like me.
I don't usually post any words to the songs I'm writing, but tonight, I just feel like I need to...
Just a glimpse of Your glory.
A glimpse of Your grace.
Holy Spirit reign down.
Invade every space.
Rain down Your presence.
Rain down Your power.
Give us a glimpse of Your glory.
Just a glimpse of Your glory this hour.
Are you asking God to take you to the max with Him? Are you asking for His glory to be reflected in You? If that is why we were created, how much time do you spend before Him, just soaking in His gentle breeze? How often do you stop to reflect on how amazing our God is? Are you like me, in that you've never stopped to try to articulate God's glory? Or is it just another churchy phrase that we know about but can't really put our finger on it.
I can't even imagine what it would be like. Lord, just a glimpse. Old Glory.
