Psalm 27:8 "When you said, 'seek my face' my heart said to you, 'your face, Lord, will I seek.'"
Some of my favorite verses are Psalm 27:1 and 14 paired together. I learned them in High School, and I can't tell you how many times I have been able to share those verses with friends going through hard times. But this morning in my quiet time, I found just another amazing verse (they are endless, I know!) tucked in between them...verse 8.
New Year's Eve we watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Yes, all 10+ hours of it! It gives such rich applications of our constant struggle with sin and doing what is right vs. what God wants us to do. The ring had such power to draw men to it, but in the end, it would always be for selfish gain, sin, and ultimate destruction.
Verse 8 strikes me in similar fashion as the ring. God says to David, "Seek my face." And David's heart is drawn to Him without a thought... Just like in the movie, those drawn to the ring had a choice to succumb to its evils or choose to resist. David had a choice to obey or not. I have a choice to get up early to have time alone with God each day or hit that snooze. I long for an ounce of David's heart and devotion to God, to have the response that He had when asked to do things. While David certainly had his share of downfalls, I realized this morning he didn't wear glasses. He had single vision. He knew what God wanted and did it. He wasn't far sighted - looking too far into the future and he wasn't near sighted, looking too much at his past failures. His focus was single - on God - serving and worshiping Him.
My prayer this morning is that I would be single focused. I don’t want to be near sighted, far sighted, needing bifocals because I was both, and I especially don’t want to have astigmatism where my vision is blurry! I want to see exactly what God is calling me to do today, His plan for me…and then, like David (and the power of the ring!) be drawn to it…fulfilling His will for my life!
